Responsibilities of the SOCMAR College
Each SOCMAR member college agrees to:
- Be an institutional member of SOC.
- Serve as a home college for servicemembers and their adult
family members enrolling in degree programs that are part of
the SOCMAR system at specified locations.
- Limit academic residency requirements for graduation, regardless
of location or delivery option, to no more than 25 percent of
the total degree requirements.
- Issue a SOCMAR Student Agreement, which is an official evaluation
and degree plan, on the standard form for each SOCMAR student
who has completed two courses (6 semester hours).
- Award credit appropriate to the curriculum for Marine Corps
service schools and MOSs based on recommendations in the ACE
Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the
Armed Services (ACE Guide).
- Award credit appropriate to the curriculum for nationally
recognized standardized tests, such as CLEP, DSST, and ASE, based
on the recommendations in the ACE Guide to Educational
Credit by Examination.
- Permit the student to complete the program under the terms
of the Student Agreement, even after separation from active military
service and even if the college is no longer a member of the
SOCMAR system.
- Accept in transfer, with no individual prior approval, comparable
courses listed in the transferability tables of the SOCMAR Handbook, provided the
courses are taken after the Student Agreement is issued.
- Accept in transfer, with no individual prior approval necessary,
General Education elective courses (as defined in the SOCMAR Handbook), provided the
courses are taken with colleges after the Student Agreement is
issued.
