Responsibilities of the Coast Guard Education Services Officer

For a potential student, the Coast Guard counselor should:

  • During inprocessing, explain how SOCCOAST guarantees can help the Coastie to earn a degree with minimum loss of credit when duty stations change.

  • Refer Coast Guard personnel to the appropriate college adviser with instructions to request a Student Agreement that will serve as an official evaluation and degree plan.

  • Determine eligibility and process forms for tuition assistance.

  • Tell Coast Guard personnel how to obtain official documentation such as college transcripts, testing verification, Coast Guard Institute Transcript, DD 295, etc.

  • Help Coast Guard personnel who are being assigned to a new installation to understand guaranteed transferability of credits and availability of courses at the new location.

  • Help Coast Guard personnel apply for graduation when all degree requirements have been met.
