Your Coast Guard training schools and work experiences (Rates and Ratings) are evaluated for possible college credit using a reference from the American Council on Education (ACE) entitled Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services (ACE Guide). ACE-recommended credit also appears on your military training and experience transcript, the USCG Transcript.
If the credits recommended by ACE match credits required in your SOCCOAST degree plan, they may take the place of the courses you would otherwise have been required to complete. In addition, you can get college credit by taking exams, such as CLEP, DSST, ECE, and others. Decisions about awarding non-traditional credit are determined by the home college, based on test scores and degree requirements.
